For detailed information, please refer to the Buncombe County Schools Board Attendance Policy 4400 and 4400R
Erwin High School's specific attendance procedures can be found in our Student/Parent Handbook.
Key Highlights
Attendance is taken for each class period in high school.
To be considered present, you must attend at least two-thirds of the class period.
Any absences exceeding seven (7) per class must be made up to receive credit.
Regardless of the reason for your absence, it is your responsibility to complete all missed assignments promptly.
Attendance Make-Up
The Attendance Make-Up Calendar is updated frequently.
You must pay $5.00 per hour by 1:30 PM on the day you plan to stay for make-up time, to Ms. Oliver. If payment is not made by this time, you will not be allowed to participate in attendance make-up.
It is your responsibility to identify the classes for which you are making up time. You will need to complete an attendance make-up ticket and turn it in before leaving. Incomplete or illegible tickets will not be processed for credit.
If you wish to apply time from a non-athletic event towards make-up hours, you must complete the Application to Apply Community Hours to Attendance Make Up Form within five days of the event. You will receive a decision via your student email about whether the time is accepted.
In special circumstances, certain absences may be categorized as 'exempted absences,' which will not count towards the 7-absence limit. To be considered for special circumstances exempted absences, the Special Consideration for Attendance form must be complete by the student and the counselor. This form can be completed in its entirety once and then used again for reoccurring absences of similar nature.
