Athletes recently gathered at T.C. Roberson High School for a day full of smiles, competition and celebration during the Special Olympics, presented by Buncombe County Parks and Recreation.

The exciting event brought students, staff, volunteers, and community partners together to cheer on athletes as they competed in a variety of games and activities throughout the day. From running events to fun challenges at Olympic Village, athletes showed determination, teamwork and sportsmanship while making lasting memories with friends.

Adding even more excitement to the day, members of North Buncombe High FFA brought farm animals for students to pet and interact with between competitions. Athletes also enjoyed visits from fan favorites Ted E. from the Asheville Tourists and the Chick-Fil-A Cow, who spent time greeting athletes, posing for photos, and spreading encouragement throughout the event.

Laughter and cheers filled the air as athletes rotated through Olympic Village activities, celebrated victories and supported one another every step of the way. The event highlighted the power of inclusion and the importance of creating opportunities for every student to shine.

The fun will continue at the next Special Olympics event, which will be held May 21 at A.C. Reynolds High School.
