Students from six Buncombe County Schools high schools came together Nov. 18 for the annual All-County Chorus concert, held at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts.

Vocalists from Enka, Erwin, T.C. Roberson, A.C. Reynolds, Owen and North Buncombe high schools earned their spots after auditioning at the school level. Selected students then spent the day rehearsing under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Stephen Gusukuma of Furman University.

Gusukuma led the combined chorus through three pieces, highlighting both musical rigor and the power of collective performance. Families, educators and community members filled the auditorium, applauding the students’ work and celebrating the district’s thriving music programs.

BCS Arts Education Specialist Jaime Graeber said the event continues to provide high-level artistic opportunities for student musicians while strengthening connections across schools.
"Our students had an incredible opportunity to work with guest clinician Dr. Stephen Gusukuma, whose artistry and leadership elevated every moment and rehearsal of the clinic,” she said. “This year was especially meaningful as the ensemble prepared and performed the masterwork Lux Aeterna—an experience that challenged them, inspired them, and showcased the depth of talent within our schools."
