When a media company recognizes a student’s achievements, it’s no surprise when cameras show up and he’s put in the spotlight.

Spectrum came to Erwin High School Friday to recognize senior Judah Dayton as one of its Scholar Athletes of the Week. North Carolina Rep. Linsey Prather accompanied Spectrum officials to honor Judah, along with Buncombe County Schools Superintendent Dr. Rob Jackson and Erwin High Principal Chip Cody.

He was nominated for the award by Erwin High counselors Elizabeth Wicker and Sarah Peterson.

“Judah is an all-around great student at Erwin, involved in everything. He’s always willing to help, and always has a smile on his face,” shared Ms. Peterson. “We are so excited that this recognition will help him achieve his academic goals”.

After graduating from Erwin, Judah hopes to attend either NC State or Clemson, and work toward a career as a civil engineer, planning and designing highways. He is grateful for all the opportunities he’s had during his time at Erwin.

Through the years it led to planning events and working with other students to truly make an impact and build school spirit and a great school community here at Erwin. I’m so glad I got to be part of it.”

In presenting Judah with his scholarship, Rep. Prather, a former Erwin High School teacher, shared “Judah is not only talented, but shares those talents with his school and community, and that makes him very special and deserving.”
