Summer is in full swing, and so are a lot of opportunities for Buncombe County students.
Happening now through Aug. 2 is Summer Academy for students from elementary to high school. Clyde A. Erwin High School is hosting the program for students in the Erwin, North Buncombe and Enka districts. This is a special time for all students.
“Students love the high school Summer Academy,” said Summer Academy Specialist Kaye Lamb. “We are able to offer individual help and support from teachers with small class sizes. “Students also have the opportunity to make new friends with those from other high schools.”
During the days students are learning, but they also get to have a little fun as well. Summer Academy helps many students speed up their journey to graduation.
“The sole focus of the program is academics, but we try to break that up with an old fashioned style recess where students can have fun and be themselves,” Ms. Lamb said. “Typically, we graduate anywhere from 25 to 60 students at the end of the program.”
In August the graduating students will gather on stage for a graduation ceremony to mark the end of their high school journey.
