Community Schools

AC Reynolds Middle is a Community School. Community Schools are public schools that partner with the community to create the conditions necessary for students and families to thrive inside and outside of the classroom.

ACRMS works in partnership with United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, and Buncombe County Schools through a collaborative leadership model to provide opportunities for integrated student services, expanded and enriched learning, and family engagement.

Community Nights

Starting in October Reynolds Middle School will host Community Nights featuring Homework Diners weekly on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 - 6:30 pm in our school cafeteria.

Tutoring for students and dinner for the family are served each week at no charge.

Community partners also join us at Community Night to provide information and resources to families.

Community School Coordinator

Carrie Wagner is our very own, full-time Community School Coordinator working here at Reynolds Middle. Carrie’s job is to listen to the needs and ideas generated by our school community and help us build relationships with community partners who can provide a variety of student supports, expanded and enriched learning, and opportunities for families to engage in the school experience.

Collaborative Leadership

The Reynolds Resource Team is made up of students, parents, school staff, and community members who meet monthly to collaboratively guide and engage in this work. If you are interested in being a part of this leadership team, please reach out to Carrie.

Active Family Engagement

Community Nights are back! Any family in the Reynolds School district can enjoy a nutritious catered meal, academic assistance, community resources, and special programs, all for free. Be sure to spread the word! Community Nights will be held weekly on Wednesdays, starting Oct. 23.

Expanded and Enriched Learning

We offer a variety of free after school clubs for students to engage in learning experiences that build skills, confidence, and relationships, while sparking interest in various career paths. After school clubs will be offered Mondays-Thursdays starting October 14 and will run throughout the school year. Sign up for clubs will start on August 23 at the “Meet the Teacher Day”.

Integrated Student Supports

We partner with several community organizations, bringing role models/mentors into the school during the day to offer self and social awareness, and emotional growth opportunities through small groups of students. Community Partners include UMOJA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Journeymen, and UNETE. If you would like your child to participate in a mentor group, please contact one of the school counselors, or Carrie Wagner.

There is a Resource Room on campus offering backpacks and school supplies, staple foods and clothes, and information about family resources within the community. The Resource Room is open to students during the school day (with pass from a teacher) and open to families on Community Nights.
