Congratulations to Nate Worley, Skylar Honeycutt, Brenda Alvarado, Emily Willis, and Lainey Williams. This fantastic group of Warriors earned the Judge's Choice Award at the Y.E.S. Chef! Youth Culinary Program and Competition on November 3rd. Y.E.S. Chef! is a mentoring program that pairs students with local business to form a mentorship that focuses on life skills and career readiness.

The competition consisted of four local high schools teamed up with local restaurateurs preparing two healthy dishes. North Buncombe High partnered with  Blue Ridge at the Omni Grove Park Inn, Asheville High partnered with Chestnut,  T.C. Roberson partnered with Dining Innovations at Biltmore Farms Doubletree, and Erwin partnered with the Biltmore House.  Erwin and Biltmore proved to be the winning match, and the students were rewarded with a traveling trophy that they will keep on campus for one year, and each member of the team will receive a personalized chef's coat.

Shortly after the competition, Erwin's ProStart / Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) teacher made this exciting announcement about their award and the event's purpose:

"Congratulations, Erwin, for Winning the 2018 YES Chef competition - a culinary fundraiser for The Joseph Initiative. Working alongside Biltmore Estate's Chef Derek and Chef Caitlin proved to be a winning combination! So proud of these great kids and all the teams that worked hard for a great cause!"

North Buncombe's team also announced their award:

"A team of our own ProStart students competed today in the first annual YES Chef Culinary Competition sponsored by The Joseph Initiative. Our team won the Peoples’ choice award! We are very proud of our students and the students and teachers from Erwin, TC, and Asheville. Congratulations to all students for their hard work!"
