White, Tonya - English

Welcome to My Classroom!

 Mrs. White

I have been teaching at Erwin for twenty-five years, and I STILL love what I do!   I am currently teaching several levels of American literature, including English III AP, English III Honors. and English III Standard.   My class is designed as an exploration of the American dream--past, present, and future, through the use of a diverse array of both fiction and nonfiction texts.   We do not have an EOC test, so our test preparation is mainly geared to help in SAT/ACT readiness as well as the Advanced placement exam for the AP class. For the English III Honors and Standards classes, we will no longer be taking the NC Final Exam, but instead will prepare for a Teacher-made exam.

I love teaching; I can't imagine doing anything else.  I also love being a mom.  Children are the most wonderful gift from God. I enjoy spending time with my husband, Eddie, and our two sons, Tanner, currently a grocery manager at Ingles, and Holden, a rising senior at Erwin this year.  We also have two extremely cute dogs, Gertie and Daisy, and two cats, Click and Scout.  I received my BA from UNC-Asheville and my MA from Ashford University in Iowa.  One of my greatest educational experiences was studying at Cambridge University in England as a N.C. Teaching Fellow. I also studied schools in New York, Florida, New Orleans, and all across North Carolina.  Education is my passion!
