Course Overview

MARCHING BAND/SYMPHONIC BAND
This band class is open to any grade level band student upon the approval of the director.  THis is an inclusive band class of marching, pep, and concert bands.  Marching band is during the football season only, and symphonic band begins with preparing for the winter concert and lasting until the end of the year. Students who are not enrolled in this class are not eligible to participate in any functions associated with the Erwin Band. Please note that during the marching band season the student is required to attend after school rehearsals and performaces as well.

The instrumental & visual marching band classes will provide students an outlet for their creative abilities. By preparing and performing with the Erwin High School Marching Band, these students will incorporate many different curricular areas into their arts education (Math, History, Foreign Language, Reading, and Writing).

It is the expectation that ALL members of the band classes will work to the best of their ability and show improvement over the course of class periods, sections, and the semester. Regardless of ability level at the beginning of a course, improvement should be demonstrated by all students.

 

Students are expected to:
- be present and rehearse/perform every day
 - treat teachers, other students, the school facilities,  equipment, AND THEMSELVES with        respect
- conduct themselves responsibly and appropriately as guided by the Erwin HS Student            Handbook and EHS Band Handbook
- NOT be on cell phones or other electronic devices unless instructed by Mr. Sulzman
- demonstrate Erwin PRIDE (Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Diversity, Excellence) in all areas of their educational experience

COLORGUARD ENSEMBLE
This ensemble participates with the marching band during football season.  Colorguard students who are not enrolled in the class are not eligible to participate in any function associated with the Erwin Band. MUSIC APPRECIATION

Music Appreciation is an Arts Elective course for students wishing to learn more about music theory and history. This is NOT a performance class and no prior music courses are necessary. Students will learn about the history of music – from the earliest forms through the music of today. Students will also learn music theory (HOW to read and write music).

Students are expected to:

- conduct themselves responsibly and appropriately as guided by the Erwin HS Student           Handbook
