*The Code of Conduct Infractions/Consequences for students who have not followed SCHOOL RULES can be found either by accessing the online version of the student handbook (from our home school web page) or you may come by the school to pick up a hard copy.

Teacher Contact Information:

I am always available to answer any questions or concerns that may you may have throughout the school year.  There are several ways of contacting me, and I have listed them in the order that usually receives the quickest response:

  1. Call before school between 7:30-8:00 am, or after school 3:00-3:30pm. You can reach me at (828-232-4251; ext 2304).
  1. Email me at

Parent/Teacher Conferences:

Conferences are scheduled on an as needed basis. If your child seems to be struggling in World History or other subject areas, then either I or one of his other teachers can schedule a conference with you as a parent or guardian.

I assign very little homework. We work very hard on a day to day basis and I try to cover everything that your child will need to know and accomplish during class. There are really only two times that I send homework - 1.) Enrichment activities to boost the concept that we are learning about. 2.) When students have become off task during class and do not finish that days assignment - which in turn becomes homework.

Remind 101:

The program is titled "Remind 101". This program is designed to help students stay organized and informed as well as parents. The goal is to remind students about upcoming tests, quizzes, homework, projects, tutoring, etc. and due dates. The intention is to help students be more academically successful and turn work in on time. There in turn increasing the student's confidence and individual abilities.

All homework assignments will be text to students each night through the teacher-safe texting system, Remind 101. Parents may also receive texts as well; however, neither parents nor students will be able to respond to the system (this is not Mrs. Silver's phone - it is a computer based system). If a parent/student has an issue or question use the above contact information to correspond with me. Additionally, since this is a computer generated system you have no need to worry about your number. The system does not tell me your number. SO, all of your personal information is kept confidential.

How to sign up:

1.) On your phone, text the code for your student's class to the following number 81010. Each class has a specific code - check with your child to see which class he/she is in to get the correct code,

2.) The system may text you back and say, "Thank you for joining Mrs. Silver's World History class, please let her know who you are." At this point, type your  name and click send. This will be the last time you or your child will be able to communicate with the system. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns when setting this up.

Parent Portal:

Parent Portal is the best way for you as a guardian to stay up to date and informed about your child's academic progress as well as attendance for each class. You can view every assignment by clicking on the grade, and also any comments that the teacher may have noted for an assignment. In addition to viewing grades you can also view absences for each class to help you manage absences (maximum number of absences is 5, however student will still be responsible for making up missed seat time - more information can be found regarding absences in the student hand book).

Parent Portal is a wonderful resource for parents/guardians! You can get all the information for this program from our counseling office here at school. You will just need to bring in a form of I.D. to the school, and they will have a print out that you can either take home or they can show you how to get started.
