MacQueen, Tate - Social Studies

Welcome to my Classroom
Coach MacQueen

I am Coach MacQueen and I am proud to teach in the Social Studies department and coach men's and women's soccer at Erwin High School. I graduated from UGA in 1998 and obtained my graduate degree from the University of Delaware in 2000. I taught on the collegiate level before starting my high school teaching career in Washington, DC. While in the DC metro area, I taught at Richard Milburn Public Charter High School, Duke Ellington School of the Arts and at Central High School.

It was in the metro area that I met my wife, Bethan. Teaching across the river from the Pentagon on 9/11/2001 caused me to re-evaluate my life and priorities. My wife and I decided to move back to my home state and to Asheville to start our family.

I taught and coached at East Henderson High School for 4 years before moving to Charles D. Owen High School, where I was for 6 years. I began my teaching at Erwin in 2014 and resumed my coaching career in 2016-17 with both the men's and women's soccer teams and was honored to assist with Erwin's football team helping out with special teams.

My courses are typically American History I and II.

I have a separate website for students to access a digital version of the American History textbook and that site is

Students are given an edmodo account for studying and review materials and for updates.
